New Year's Day Walk at Lac Blanc

We will leave from the Col du Calvaire near Lac Blanc, a place full of history, we will have a breathtaking panoramic view of the Vallée Blanche.

We will go to the source of Lac Blanc, we will savor the crémant on the belvedere, then we will make a descent through a beautiful fir forest.

You will discover

➤ The many glacial lakes formed during the Quaternary and Würm periods, retaining a wild and unique appearance, marrying the sublime colors of the seasons and transporting you to a magical world.

➤ The fauna and flora of the massif, swept by the wind and undergoing extreme weather conditions leading to the establishment of subalpine plants.

➤ These high places have long been shaped by Man, from the clearing in the 7th century by monks who found refuge there to the First World War which considerably modified the landscape and the geographical structure of the territory gradually leading to the tourist development as we know it today.

➤ The Lac Blanc is dominated by a rock in the shape of a fortress called the "Hans castle". A legend tells that a cruel lord lived in the castle which once overlooked the rock and terrorized the population.

Today, the "Hans castle" is above all a magnificent viewpoint allowing you to admire the Lac Blanc. A statue of the Virgin, perched on the Hans rock, dominates the lake.
